Hakan Ateş was born in 1959. He completed his studies at TED Ankara College and obtained his undergraduate degree at Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Economics, Middle East Technical University. He embarked on his career as an Inspection Board Inspector at Isbank in 1981. He assumed duties in various units of Interbank between 1986 and 1993. Then, he served as the Branch Manager of Elmadağ, Şişli, Bakırköy, Izmir and Merkez Branches. He established Interbank’s Cash Management System. In 1993, he was appointed as Deputy General Manager in Charge of Central Operations. From 1994 to 1996, He served as Deputy General Manager in charge of Financial Affairs and Operations at Bank Express conducting Bank Express’s restructuring project under with Bank of America’s consultation. He founded GarantiBank Moscow in Russia and served as General Manager for one year starting in June 1996. He has been serving as General Manager of DenizBank since June 1997. DenizBank shares were offered to the public in October 2004, with the demand equal to 5.5 times of the public offering, and 68% of the shares were sold to corporate clients abroad. Also, Mr. Ateş oversaw the sale of 75 percent of DenizBank shares, the bank then owned by Zorlu Holding, to Dexia S.A. in May 2006. In June 2012, he managed the sale of Dexia Group’s 99.85 percent of DenizBank shares to Sberbank. Continuing to serve as the Chairman of the Board at DenizBank subsidiaries including DenizYatırım Securities, Intertech, Destek Varlık Yönetimi, and DenizBank Moscow as well as First Vice Chairman of the Board at DenizBank AG, Mr. Ateş was recognized by the Bahçeşehir University with the “Value Adders for Turkey” Award in 2015.
